Transitioning into the private sector can mean months and months of submitting online applications. So you finally land an interview with the company of your dreams. Now what? Many job seekers spend most of the day submitting applications and attending job fairs its all part of the process. Well, the goal is to stay ready always and this means you must be prepared to interview at a moment notice. You never know when a great opportunity will come knocking at your door. It is natural to feel a little nervous especially if you haven’t interviewed in a while. The important thing is that you made it to the door and now is your time to sell yourself. Here is some quick advice on ways to boost your confidence for your upcoming interviews. 

Preparation

·       Research the company and look at their recent financial reports, and articles.

·       Utilize social media to familiarize yourself with the company culture, trends, products, and services.

·       Find a friend to help you do a mock interview to help prepare you to get in front of the recruiter or hiring manager.

·       Perform a practice route to the location of the interview, this can save you time the day of so you can arrive early.

·       Review your resume for errors and ensure you have plenty of copies to provide at the interview. There may be more than one interviewer.

·       Rest is very important so getting to bed earlier the night before will help you stay alert with lots of energy!

·       Arrive on time to the interview: The early bird gets the worm.

·       Be sure to shake the interviewer(s) hand. Firm just enough to show your confidence.

·       Sitting up straight during the interview and leaning in gives the impression that you are engaged and interested. Even if you are not feeling as confident sitting up straight in a power pose can help you feel more confident.

·       Eye contact is a great way to show that you are confident and engaged.  

·     Speak loud enough that you can articulate clearly your skills and career goals to the interviewer.

·       Breathe!

 

More importantly bring your authentic self to the interview and allow the interviewer to see the wonderful you!
